Bundoora RSL Bowling Club
Starting in May 1972 a small steering committee was formed to approach the Council. On November 8 1972 a meeting took place in `All Saints' Anglican Church Hall, Grimshaw St, Greensborough and the Bundoora Bowling Club was formed. The men who joined at that time became known as foundation members. Lady bowlers became Associate Members, and thus formed the Ladies' Section. In June 1973 at a General Meeting, the Men's Section decided to enter two teams in the RVBA competition for the next season 1973/4, and the RVBA allocated the men two teams in C grade. The Ladies' Section, at their meeting, decided to enter one team for the next season, and the ladies were allocated a team in D grade. Our first green (which is now our centre or No.2 green) was opened on February 24th 1974. We were loaned a tent for use as a club house, and later acquired use of an ex-army bell tent which was bigger than the first. The ladies "did the men proud" on pennant days using trestles for afternoon tea, and serving sandwiches, cheese and biscuits, plain and fruit cake, and tea or coffee, served from an urn at the back of the tent. In December 1974 we moved into our new club house, the tin shed. This was indeed comfort, but also posed minor problems. We commenced playing pennant on our own green in the season 1974/5.
