On this day, the 3rd Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment (3RAR), successfully assaulted and held crucial hill features overlooking Pakchon in the face of heavy North Korean and Chinese resistance.

In their first battle with the Chinese, 3 RAR captured a well defended hill, with only limited offensive support, and held it in the face of heavy counter-attacks.

Following heavy fighting the pressure on the Australians unexpectedly ceased after midnight, and parties of Chinese were observed beginning to withdraw. The battle had claimed 12 Australian lives with a further 70 Australians wounded.
