On this day saw the last Australian forces departing Tarin Kot, Uruzgan Province, Afghanistan, after 12 years of combat, in 2013.

The Australians had been based in the rugged region of southern Afghanistan since 2005. Australian special forces were also active in Uruzgan, where Taliban fighters continued to wage a low-level insurgency with our brave diggers protecting the area during that time.

Australia has lost 41 troops killed in action in Afghanistan with a further 261 being wounded.
