On this in 1948 saw the formation of the Australian Regiment, which became the Royal Australian Regiment (RAR) in March 1949.

The RAR is the parent administrative regiment for regular infantry battalions of the Australian Army and is the senior infantry regiment of the Royal Australian Infantry Corps.

The Royal Australian Regiment has taken a prominent role in Australia's wars and peacekeeping operations since its formation and its men are famously known for wearing the iconic "Skippy" found on the RAR crest!
