RSL Victoria has announced that a traditional ANZAC Day Dawn Service, March and commemorative service will return to Melbourne this year.

The Melbourne Dawn Service at the Shrine of Remembrance will begin at 5:30 am with a Welcome to Country. The Dawn service will be followed by the ANZAC Day march commencing at 9 am from Princes Bridge. The march will be followed immediately by the Commemorative service on the Shrine of Remembrance forecourt.

The traditional ANZAC Day church service, which occurs the Sunday before ANZAC Day each year, will also go ahead at St Paul's Cathedral on Sunday 24 April 2022, commencing at 4:00 pm.

This announcement comes after months of planning and collaboration between RSL Victoria, RSL volunteers, the Victorian government, The Shrine of Remembrance and City of Melbourne council representatives.

RSL Victoria President, Dr Robert Webster OAM, says this year's ANZAC Day will be particularly meaningful. "When the pandemic began in 2020, all of us within the RSL were in awe of the willingness of Victorians to adapt to the concept of commemoration from home. From this, amazing initiatives such as Light Up The Dawn were born.

"However, ANZAC Day has always been something to experience in person. Waking up early, standing in the cold, holding family, mates and loved ones close, feeling the goosebumps rise as the last post begins to play. These are all powerful emotive sensations that we have the opportunity to once gain experience in person on ANZAC Day"

Dr Robert Webster OAM

Dr Webster went on to say "Every year it is the enormous privilege of the RSL to lead Victorians in commemoration on ANZAC Day. We do this both at a local and state level. The RSL Victoria website is your gateway to ANZAC Day this year. You will find information about RSL Sub-Branch services in the local community and Melbourne ANZAC Day activities on our website. I encourage all of you to visit rslvic.com.au and plan your ANZAC Day," he said.
