Statement on ANZAC Day event proceedings

April 29, 2025

RSL Victoria believes that we should not be giving the tiny minority that disrupted ANZAC Day any legitimacy by engaging in debate that they have triggered.

The ANZAC Day Dawn Service and March in Melbourne is administered by the ANZAC Commemoration Council, whose members represent the RSL, Shrine of Remembrance, State Government, Office of the Governor of Victoria, and City of Melbourne. They collectively act as the governing group for the format and order of proceedings for the event.

The last nine years have seen acknowledgement or welcome to country before official proceedings at the Melbourne Dawn Service, as decided by that Council.

This aligns with RSL policy Australia-wide.

First Nations veterans have played a vital role in our service history.
