9News has created a Community Service Announcement (CSA) to celebrate 100 years of the Poppy Appeal and encourage the community to donate, either by buying a badge or making a donation online.

The CSA, which is on air now, features beloved 9News Melbourne anchor Peter Hitchener OAM and aims to raise awareness and funds for the centenary of the Poppy Appeal.

Through the commercial, both Nine and RSL Victoria hope that Victorians will be encouraged to donate to the Poppy Appeal, either by buying a badge or making a donation online.

Mr Hitchener said, “For 100 years, the RSL’s Poppy Appeal has supported serving and ex-serving men and women of Australia’s Defence Force and their families when they’ve needed our help.

“Poppies are available from our volunteers in the community, Woolworths and Officeworks stores or you can donate online at poppyappeal.com.au. Join us as we say thank you for this November.”

Please show your support by buying and wearing a poppy in the lead up to Remembrance Day, on November 11.

RSL Victoria’s Fundraising Manager, Mr Peter Smith OAM said, “We are very grateful for the support from Channel Nine in helping us spread the message about the centenary of the Poppy Appeal through this new TV commercial.”

“By buying a badge or donating to the Poppy Appeal, you are helping the RSL in providing life-changing services and support to veterans and their families.”

If you can, and if you are able, please, buy a poppy or donate online to the Poppy Appeal this Remembrance Day.

RSL Victoria

First established in 1916, RSL Victoria’s primary objectives are to provide support to veterans and their families, acknowledge Australian Defence Force service and perpetuate its patriotic duty whilst encouraging conversation and mateship between those who have served and their communities. A crucial role of the RSL is also to appropriately commemorate those who have suffered and died in service of our nation or its allies.
