RSL Victoria has formally thanked its vital network of volunteers at a function held at the Box Hill RSL Sub-Branch, as part of National Volunteer Week (NVW).

Each volunteer who attended the function was presented with a certificate and treated to lunch, prizes and guest speakers.

RSL Victoria’s President, Dr Robert Webster OAM, said volunteers make a significant contribution.

"“They help to achieve the RSL’s mission to provide a high standard of support and services to all veterans and their families.”"

The RSL is proud to align with the National Standards for Volunteer Involvement, which foster a safe, effective and inclusive volunteering culture and environment.

Dr Robert Webster OAM said investing in our volunteers is an investment in the RSL’s future.

“It is critical that our volunteers feel valued, supported and recognised because without them, much of the great work and services we provide couldn’t happen.”

This year’s NVW theme, “Something for Everyone”, is about showcasing the benefits and flexibility of volunteering and highlighting that there’s a volunteer role for everyone.

RSL Victoria’s Manager of Volunteer and Social Engagement, Kerry Burns said this is very true of the RSL.

“We currently have more than 40 different volunteer roles on offer throughout the network. There really is something for everyone. We also have the capacity to create roles within areas where support is required, or specialist skills are desired.”

It is well-known that volunteering can bring a multitude of benefits to the individuals involved, including to mental health and wellbeing.

Kerry said volunteers are the ‘invisible workforce’, who bring many benefits and provide essential support for the ex-service community.

“Over 300,000 volunteer hours were recorded last year. That’s a significant cost saving to the business. It’s thanks to our volunteers that those critical roles can be filled and services delivered. We couldn’t do it with them!”
