Title of the Position: Security Officer

Role Summary/Brief Description: The Security Officer is responsible for working with the Chief Security Officer and Principal Security Officer in delivering
the security operations that ensure compliance and effectiveness for Navantia Australia.

Duties and Responsibilities: In accordance with Navantia Security Practices and Procedures, develop and implement security processes that allow core business to be conducted in line with best practice security arrangements that are compliant with the Defence Security Principles Framework (DSPF) and the Protective Security Principles Framework (PSPF).

  • Administer Navantia Australia’s DISP membership.
  • Conduct scheduled DISP assurance activities as required per DSPF 16.1 to support the Chief Security Officer’s DISP governance activities.
  • Develop, review, update & assist implementing security processes under the guidance of the Principal Security Officer working with the Quality department to publish processes on internal knowledge pages for Navantia staff guidance.
  • Check, monitor and administer the access control of employees and visitors.
  • Manage and administer the Navantia Australia commercial security system and respond to facility alarms 24/7, and be responsible for the access control of employees and visitors to Navantia Australia facilities.
  • Administer Defence base access arrangements for all Navantia employees and program Sub-Contractors.
  • Develop and present reports as requested.
  • Administer security documentation, department tools and Security Register ensuring sensitive and classified materials entrusted to the Entity are safeguarded at all times.
  • Oversee the ongoing management of personnel security clearances and requests.
  • Maintain the Designated Security Assessed Position (DSAP) list (Level 2), which is to be made available to DS&VS at their request.
  • Reporting change of circumstances and vulnerabilities of clearance holders (SVA003/SVA004).
  • Facilitate annual security awareness training of personnel.
  • Report security incidents, fraud incidents and contact reports, in accordance with Defence policy.
  • Assist with facilities matters as they arise.
  • Other reasonable duties as required.

Skills and Experience:

Experience:

  • 3 years in a Security Officer role with Defence/Defence Industry.
  • Proven skills and experience operating in line with best practice security arrangements as a Security Officer.
  • Ability to deliver results in a high-pressure environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and build positive relationships at all levels of the business and with clients.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • DS&VS Security Officer Course
  • DS&VS Risk Management Course

Competencies:

Technical:

  • Sound knowledge of Defence security principles and compliance requirements.
  • Sound knowledge of Excel, Word and related MS Office products.
  • Ability to interpret technical documentation.
  • Experience in Defence Industry highly regarded.

Security:

  • Ability to gain and maintain NV1 as a minimum.
  • The employee must also take care of the ongoing management of their security clearance (at level) with the assistance of their Security Officer.
  • Any change of circumstances that will affect the clearance holder must be immediately reported to AGSVA via form SVA003 (Change of Circumstances Notification form).
