ANZAC Appeal
The RSL’s annual ANZAC Appeal is a major campaign to raise funds to support veterans and their families.
YOU ARE CHANGING VETERANS’ LIVES
For more than 100 years, RSL Victoria has supported veterans and their families who have been impacted by their service and sacrifice. Generously supported, this special fundraising campaign enables Victorians to give something back to those who give and have given so much for us all.
You can donate to the ANZAC Appeal through donating securely online.
The ANZAC Appeal runs throughout April every year.
History of the ANZAC Appeal
The earliest known newspaper reference to the ANZAC Appeal appeared on 11 April 1919 in the Gippsland Farmers’ Journal. The article reported that the Traralgon RSL Sub-Branch intended to use funds raised through the Appeal to construct its Memorial Hall — a dedicated meeting place for veterans within the local community.
This purpose was central to the founding of the Returned Sailors’ and Soldiers’ Imperial League of Australia (now RSL Australia): to provide a place where veterans could come together, support one another and navigate life after service. That intent was clearly expressed in the organisation’s founding charter, which described its shared purpose as being “to help one and other in this battle of life”.
