Important travel tips

  • Arrive early: the Dawn Service attracts significant attendance
  • Dress warmly and wear comfortable footwear
  • Follow all instructions from event staff and Victoria Police
  • Some surrounding roads will be closed to vehicles.

With the opening of the new Anzac Station, there are now new ways to move to the Dawn Service at the Shrine of Remembrance.

  • Take the Cranbourne, Pakenham and Sunbury Line to Anzac Station​.
  • Frankston Line passengers, change at Caufield for direct access to Anzac Station.
  • Werribee and Williamstown lines passengers, change at Footscray Station for direct access to Anzac Station.
  • Passengers on other lines can transfer at Flinders Street Station to Town Hall Station for trains to Anzac Station.

Getting to the Shrine of Remembrance from Anzac Station

  • Go to Exit 4 or Exit 3
  • Follow signage or staff directions to the Shrine of Remembrance
  • Allow approximately 10-15 minutes to walk from the station to the Shrine grounds.

From 4:30 am on ANZAC Day, Travellers Aid will provide a free shuttle bus service if you need mobility assistance between Anzac Station and the Shrine grounds.

Please use Anzac Station Exit 4 (Domain Road) — the shuttle bus pick‑up point is located immediately outside.

The shuttle bus will transport you and one companion to the designated Accessible Viewing Area near the Shrine. No bookings are required — simply arrive at the pick‑up zone.

Please note that capacity is limited, and priority will be given to attendees who require mobility assistance and one accompanying companion.

Additional trams will operate on the Swanston Street and St Kilda Road corridors between Flinders Street Station and Stop 20 (Anzac Station) on ANZAC Day morning.

Two extra services will operate on all CBD lines.

Tram services will stop running on St Kilda Road from 5:45am on ANZAC Day until after the Commemoration March is complete and the road is clear of event infrastructure at about 2:00pm.

Transport Victoria will run free, wheelchair-accessible shuttle buses from selected RSLs and locations around Melbourne to and from the Dawn Service at the Shrine.

After the Dawn Service, the free shuttle buses will depart from the Shrine at 7:00am from the drop-off location at Birdwood Avenue and return to all the original pickup locations.

Parking at the Shrine of Remembrance and surrounding streets is restricted on ANZAC Day. We recommend catching public transport to the Dawn Service.

Details regarding all-abilities access to the Dawn Service at the Shrine of Remembrance will be published in the lead up to the event.

For more than a century, the RACV (Royal Automobile Club of Victoria) has supported veterans with mobility challenges by providing transport to participate in the Melbourne ANZAC Day March.

This personalised service is offered to veterans who require assistance getting to and from the March. RSL Victoria is proud of this long-standing partnership with the RACV.

This service includes:

  • Transport from the home address to the March route, viewing from the RACV marquee, and return transport home.
  • Transport from the home address, participation in the March with a unit, and return transport home.
  • Transport in the March only (no transport to or from home).

Road Closures – ANZAC Day

Due to the nature of ANZAC Day in Melbourne, several road closures will be in place in and around the CBD, St Kilda Road and the Shrine of Remembrance precinct.

Road closures from 12:01 am – 2:00 pm on 25 April 2026

  • Swanston Street between Flinders Street and Princes Bridge
  • St Kilda Road (centre thoroughfare and service lanes) between Park Street and Princes Bridge
  • Coventry Street at St Kilda Road
  • Dorcas Street at St Kilda Road
  • Grant Street at St Kilda Road and Wells Street
  • Wadey Street at St Kilda Road
  • Southbank Boulevard between Sturt Street and St Kilda Road
  • Dallas Brooks Drive between Domain Road and Birdwood Avenue
  • Birdwood Avenue between Domain Road and Anzac Avenue
  • Linlithgow Avenue (east–west), between Alexandra Avenue and St Kilda Road (except for motorcycles)
