One of the first RSL Active activities for the year saw a group of veterans treated to an all-expenses paid fishing charter.

They jumped on board at Rye Pier nice and early and headed out for 5 hours of fishing and socialising in the bay.

The charter catered to every level of fishing ability and those on board didn’t do too badly! The eight participants from the Army, Navy and Air Force caught 58 fish between them including Flathead, Gurnard and Slimy Mackerel.

Veterans enjoyed a day out on the water!

As they say though, there’s always one that managed to get away and this time it was a Butterfly Gurnard, which was released back into the water.

The group then returned to Rosebud RSL for lunch, with a great time had by all on water and land.

This is just one of RSL Active’s unique events on offer throughout the year, all with the aim of connecting veterans, developing social networks, enhancing support circles, and improving physical and mental health.

What a catch!
