Statement from RSL Victoria on signs outside Heidelberg Magistrates Court
RSL Victoria had previously condemned the vandalism at RSL Sub-Branches and ANZAC monuments on ANZAC Day.
Those who doubled down with disgraceful signs outside of the court case only reiterate their lack of understanding of our history.
While we will allow the legal process to take its course and will not comment on penalties, we did provide a statement to the Herald Sun last night:
“The RSL strongly condemns the disgraceful behaviour directed at Australian service people outside the Heidelberg Magistrates Court today. While we respect the court process dealing with the mindless vandalism that took place at some RSL Sub-Branches on ANZAC Day, there is no excuse for attacks on the men and women who have dedicated their lives to their country.
Those responsible need to reflect on the debt they owe to the men and women who have served in the ADF and how these outrageous comments would impact those who have lost loved ones in service.”
It is concerning that extremists on either side of the political spectrum are seeking to politicise the ANZAC legacy. We cannot allow this to happen.
